Captain America, the creation of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, debuted in March of 1941. Frail, young Steve Rogers was rejected by the Army during the dawning years of World War II, but his unparalleled love of country led him to volunteer for a dangerous military experiment. Taking the untested Super-Solider serum, Rogers was transformed into the ultimate warrior of physical perfection, and, donning a uniform patterned after the flag.
